CHAIRMAN for Law and Order, Edwin Maigen has commended PNG authorities in Port Moresby for arresting three Malaysian nationals at Jackson’s International Airport bound for New Ireland with counterfeit money last week.
Maigen said “These foreigners are not welcome in New Ireland”.
“They must be investigated, charged and harshly punished,” he said.
Mr. Maigen believes the three Malaysians are part of the logging companies operating in New Ireland and has called for an investigation into the incident.
“With the logging industry in PNG being monopolized by Malaysian companies, they continue to lie to the Government and the people of this country.
“New Ireland and PNG have had enough of these Malaysians playing havoc.
“They continue to rob our people and destroy our roads and water ways, they must be deported out of New Ireland,” Mr. Maigen said.
New Ireland Acting Provincial Administrator and chairman of the Forestry Enforcement Unit, Moses Taram said the incident is a red flag and relevant authorities will crack down on these illegal activities at logging camps.
“Logging camps are avenues for conducting illegal operations.
“The Forestry Enforcement unit will organize a taskforce team including customs, immigration, police and labour to move into logging camps and investigate their illegal businesses.
“The incident in Port Moresby last week tells us that these sort of illegal activities are happening.
“The operation will make sure that these logging companies are operating within legal limits.
“Anyone found to be facilitating illegal business in the province, will be shipped out immediately,” he added.
