Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu has urged people in his province to give priority to their health and safety during the two weeks Covid-19 lockdown in the province.
“We must prioritise our health and safe and that is why I urge all the people including students in Eastern Highlands province to give priority to their health and follow all Covid-19 requirements during the two weeks of lockdown,” Governor Numu said.
He said due to the increasing number of covid-19 cases recorded in Goroka and Eastern Highlands Province, the two weeks lockdown is fitting to control and minimize the spread of Covid-19 in the province.
“I call on the people of Eastern Highlands province to follow the lockdown rules and protect ourselves by isolating ourselves in our homes to avoid contracting Covid-19 and also to stop it from spreading,” the Governor said.
“Let us isolate ourselves for the next two weeks and remove coronavirus from our province so that we can operate normal after the two weeks lockdown.”
Governor Numu also urged students in the province not to waste the two weeks but to stay at home and spend the time to study and do their takeaway assignments so that they would not miss out on any subject for the 2021 academic year.
He urged the people not to move around Goroka town or other district headquarters but to stay in their homes and engage in things that are of benefit to them.
Governor Numu added that the national controller and the national government are giving the orders and it is of benefit to the people to follow the directions given.
Eastern Highlands Province has reordered 103 covid-19 cases as of Saturday 27.
