OPIC Farewells 14 Retirees, Welcomes New Generation of Workers

KIMBE: The PNG Oil Palm Industry Corporation (OPIC) has honoured 14 long-serving staff during a farewell ceremony today in Kimbe,West New Britain Province marking the end of decades of dedicated service to the sector.

Oil Palm Minister Hon. Francis Galia Maneke praised the retirees for their role in supporting smallholder farmers and strengthening rural livelihoods throughout the years.

“Your service has shaped the industry. Though you retire today, your legacy will continue to inspire,” the Minister said.

OPIC General Secretary Kepson Pupita also thanked the retirees for their commitment through years of change and challenge.

“Your wisdom and values remain with us as we move forward,” he said.

The ceremony also marked a new chapter for OPIC, with 25 new jobs created following two workforce transition exercises nine staff retrenched in 2023 and 14 retired today making way for young Papua New Guineans to take up roles.

The event celebrated both the legacy of the past and the promise of the future for PNG’s oil palm industry.
