The Supreme Court has overturned the misappropriation convictions against Jacob Yafai, ruling that the trial judge committed an error when finding Yafai guilty.
In a decision handed down this morning, a three-judge bench set aside the guilty verdicts on all four misappropriation charges and entered not-guilty findings.
The ruling effectively quashes Yafai’s conviction and sentence relating to those charges.
The court sustained the separate count of official misconduct, finding no error on the trial judge’s decision on that charge.
As a result, Yafai will remain in custody while pursuing an appeal against the sentence imposed for the official misconduct conviction.
