PRIME Minister Hon. James Marape commended Mining Minister and Menyamya MP Hon. Solen Loifa for delivering important Development Projects, saying Menyamya demonstrated how national funding, committed leadership and effective local implementation could bring tangible benefits to rural communities.
Addressing a large gathering at Menyamya District station, Prime Minister Marape said he was pleased to open facilities that would strengthen Government administration, law and order, accessto water and opportunities for local trade.
The Projects included a high-quality District Administration Office building, a Police Station, a Market Facility, a Water Project and a rehabilitated Rural Lock-Up. “These facilities represent what our people deserve: Government services reaching their communities and public money producing results they can see and use,” Prime Minister Marape said. “I congratulate Minister Solen Loifa, his District Administration and everyone who has contributed to these Projects. This is the kind of energy and commitment we want from our young leaders across Papua New Guinea.”
The Prime Minister was joined by Deputy Prime Minister and Lae MP Hon. John Rosso, Morobe Governor Hon. Rainbo Paita, Bulolo MP Hon. Sam Basil Jr, and Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology and UnggaiBena MP Hon. Kinoka Feo. Government officials, development partners, stakeholder representatives and residents also attended, with local people turning out in large numbers, showing their appreciation and support to the Government for the Projects delivered to them.
Prime Minister Marape said the Pangu-led Marape–Rosso Government’s Development Agenda depended on translating Annual Budget Allocations into functioning services across Districts and Provinces. “Our Government has been sending Development Funding to Districts and Provinces throughout the country, regardless of whether their member sits in Government or Opposition,” he said. “Our people’s ‘Right to Services’ does not depend on political affiliation. Wherever they live, they deserve roads, schools, health services, electricity, clean water and safe communities.”
He said Menyamya’s progress illustrated the responsibility of elected leaders and public administrators to turn funding into practical improvements. “I want to visit Districts to open completed Projects and cut ribbons on facilities that are ready to serve our people,” Prime Minister Marape said. “Announcements and groundbreaking ceremonies must lead to delivery. The real measure of our work is whether a mother can sell her produce, a family can access water, a police officer can serve the community, and a public servant can attend to people’s needs.”
The Prime Minister acknowledged Road Projects continuing around the District Station and along the highway, together with Power Projects still under
development. He said completing these works would further support service delivery and economic activity, connecting\ communities and helping businesses and farmers reach wider opportunities. Prime Minister Marape also recognised Menyamya’s contribution to Papua New Guinea through Agriculture, saying its hardworking people and productive land provided a strong foundation for greater prosperity. “Menyamya has contributed to our country through Agriculture for many years, and there is still enormous potential in coffee, cocoa and other crops,” he said. “As our economy grows, I
encourage our people to identify the opportunities opening around them and take practical steps to participate. Work
your land, improve your production and build enterprises that can support your families.”
He said infrastructure investment and agricultural development must advance together, with roads, markets, water andelectricity helping rural producers participate more effectively in the economy.
Prime Minister Marape thanked development partners, public servants and local communities for supporting the District’s progress and encouraged residents to care of the new facilities. “These assets belong to the people of Menyamya. Protect them, maintain them and use them well so they continue serving your children and future generations,” he said. “I am encouraged by what I
have seen today. When national support is matched by determined local leadership and community cooperation, we can deliver meaningful change. That is what the Marape–Rosso Government is working towards: development that reaches our people, strengthens our Districts and gives every Papua New Guinean a greater opportunity to prosper.”
