Commissioner of Police David Manning has put all communities on notice that police Easter operations are well underway, with a high-visibility and high-impact police presence set to be felt across the country.
He said residents and visitors alike can expect to see police actively patrolling and safeguarding public spaces, ensuring everyone can enjoy this time of reflection in peace and harmony.
COP Manning said police would be patrolling urban areas to enhance the safety of families enjoying their time together during this important time of reflection.
“I have issued orders that uniformed Police will be visible in public areas, while others will be dressed in plain clothes to identify any troublemakers,” he said
“Police will be highly visible at public gatherings, PMV stops, markets and in known hot-spots.”
COP Manning has issued a warning to thieves, drunkards and drug users that they will be arrested if they go out in public and cause trouble this Easter holiday.
“We will have zero tolerance for anti-social behavior, public drunkenness or disorderly conduct.
“Police will not permit the criminal minority in our communities to abuse this time of reflection.
“My orders to Provincial Police Commanders are clear and concise: Easter is a time to reflect and thank God for the good in our lives and our communities.”
COP Manning said that police would protect law-abiding citizens, not those who failed to adhere to the laws and values of the communities.
“Zero tolerance and a hard response to criminal activity is the approach from Police on patrol.”
The Police Commissioner wished all Papua New Guineans a safe and peaceful Easter, and thanked police personnel for their dedication to the protection of public order.
