Police report quiet Christmas

Police in both the National Capital District and Central Province have been working tirelessly to make sure that the people from their command were safe during Christmas.

This resulted in christmas celebrated peacefully in most parts of both NCD and Central province. The Commander of NCD and Central Provinces Assistant Commissioner of Police Anthony Wagambie Jr thanked his officers in both provinces for a job well done.
He said most of the situations reported were alcohol-related and were attended to by the police officers who were deployed during the operation to make sure that the situation was under control.

Police confirmed that most of the incidents reported were attended to.   Police officers from Central Province after launching their festive Season Operation at Kwikila on the 21st of December were deployed to all the districts in the province.

The police team comprised of police officers from different divisions made a great team who did motorist patrols, foot patrols, dawn raids, roadblocks, and stop searches of suspicious people and were also involved in raising awareness among the villagers.

According to Central Provincial Police Commander  Acting Superintendent  Laimo Asi, the province was quiet and peaceful.

He said according to the daily situation reports that were provided by the police officers, there were no major incidents reported except two murders reported at Vanapa Brown LLG, wounding at Berina and armed robbery at Kemabolo in Rigo which the suspects were arrested.

PPC Asi commended his officers for keeping the province safe during the Christmas period and called on people of Central and people who are from outside provinces residing in  Central to celebrate and maintain that into the year 2024.

PPC Asi added that those crimes that were reported during the Christmas period were attended to and police are investigating them.

In NCD, the city was also quiet and people celebrated peacefully except for some locations that had fights and the police were there to keep the situation under control.
Traffic accidents were reported around the city and most of these accidents attended to by the police. It was discovered that drivers were under the influence of liquor that caused the accidents.

A suspicious death was also reported at 9 Mile which the police homicide team attended to and an investigation is underway.

National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Silva Sika, was pleased with his officers for the tremendous job done to keep the city safe during the Christmas period.

He said the police operation that started on Friday 22nd December will continue to the new year period.
He said people in the city must behave during the New Year celebration, because in previous years there had been reports of deaths during the New Year celebration.
Metsupt Sika added that from the situation reports provided, the city was quiet, except for a few alcohol-related fights and accidents.

He said carjacking was also reported but police officers were quick to respond to which resulted in some of the vehicles recovered.

He also thanked police officers from Water Police who patrolled the Motuan Coast lines to show police presence in the sea.
