His Royal Highness Prince Edward will travel to Papua New Guinea in September as the official representative of His Majesty King Charles III to take part in the country’s 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
Prime Minister James Marape confirmed the royal visit, describing it as a significant moment in the country’s history as it marks five decades of nationhood.
Prince Edward will arrive in Port Moresby on September 14 and is scheduled to participate in a number of major national events. A highlight of his visit will be the official opening of the new
Supreme and National Court House on Independence Day, 16 September. The modern court complex, constructed under the Marape-Rosso Government, is being hailed as one of the most advanced judicial facilities in the Pacific region as a symbol of the country’s commitment to upholding the rule of law.
“This visit by His Royal Highness reflects the deep and ongoing relationship between Papua New Guinea and the British monarchy,” Prime Minister Marape said.
Prince Edward is also expected to attend the State Dinner on 15 September, and witness both the flag-raising and flag-lowering ceremonies on Independence Day.
Another major event during his visit will be the Presentation of the New Military Colours, a ceremonial handover that marks the transition from the reign of Queen Elizabeth II to King Charles III. This historic moment will take place at Hubert Murray Stadium, witnessed by the
Prince, the Prime Ministers of Papua New Guinea and Australia, and the Governor-General.
The visit will reaffirm the close ties between PNG and the United Kingdom as the nation celebrates its golden jubilee with pride and renewed vision for the future.
