OPERATIONS at Tokua Airport have been suspended following severe flooding caused by continuous heavy rainfall over the weekend.
According to a statement issued by the National Airports Corporation (NAC), persistent rain since Saturday, 4 April 2026, led to significant water runoff from surrounding areas, inundating both the runway and taxiway.
Acting Managing Director and CEO, Dominic Kaumu, confirmed that the flooding has rendered the airfield unsafe for operations. As a result, a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued, formally announcing the temporary closure of the airport until further notice.
NAC officials on the ground in Tokua are closely monitoring the situation, assessing water levels, and working to ensure that conditions return to safe operating standards as soon as possible.
The corporation acknowledged the disruption caused to passengers, airlines, and other stakeholders, expressing regret for the inconvenience while emphasizing that safety remains the top priority.
Updates on the reopening of Tokua Airport are expected once inspections confirm that the runway and surrounding infrastructure are safe for normal use.
