FIFTEEN displaced survivors of sorcery violence including children were helped by PNG Tribal Foundation the nation’s capital this week.

A 29-year-old mother, husband and their six children with the youngest twin sons of 11 months old were given food supplies in a safe house(named) in Moresby-Northwest after they were left with nothing for days.

Josephine Durua, safe house owner, who runs her shelter to survivors of domestic violence and sorcery accusation related violence since 2010 have confirmed nine survivors are currently under her care with her own support.

“I usually get help from NCDC, Family PNG, CPL Foundation and amongst others over the years but this month had nothing left for us.

“We thank PNG Tribal Foundation for visiting our safe house and coming back again today (Tuesday) to support us with food.

I sell garden produce at the market just to feed the survivors whenever we run out of food and for weeks, I haven’t been selling because am not able to buy and resell.

“We are facing economic crisis everywhere in the city and am struggling too just to make sure our survivors are fed while I do my usual visits to Family Sexual Violence Unit (FSVU) for the case and provide counseling”, she said.

In Moresby Northeast, two families consist of six members were assisted with their accommodation.

The families fled their homes after they were burnt down by an angry mob in November 2025.

It has now been seven months, and the families have been homeless and scattered around the city, still struggling through the long justice process and living in the city.

These families are among 29 affected victims of an isolated incident involving the alleged sorcery-related death of a man in East Boroko, Port Moresby, last year.

PNG Tribal Foundation thanked the efforts of CID Police for successfully arresting the suspects, who are now in custody.

Investigations into the case continue.

In February, seven primary school children, out of 14 children assisted by the organization, returned to school.

The families also received food supplies.
