THE Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has launched the TSC Corporate Plan and Teaching Service Development Plan to revitalize the TSC towards a vision for a smarter public service.
In his keynote speech, the Minister for Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST) and Acting Minister for Education, Kinoka Feo described the launching as a historic milestone of the TSC’s journey to reform the engine room of the education system.
“From our (government) perspective, the TSC is the custodian of our most valuable national asset—our teachers,” Mr. Feo said.
“If TSC is efficient, our teachers are motivated. If our teachers are motivated, our children learn better.”
Mr. Feo said that education is the backbone of the National Development Goal while noting that the Prime Minister’s direction is to the TSC is ‘Leave no teacher behind and leave no child behind’.
“The government demands a commission that is responsive, transparent and decentralized,” Mr. Feo said.
The Acting TSC Chairman, Maini Mike Ugaia in his speech said that the TSC Corporate Plan is a roadmap aligned with the Government’s Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP IV).
Mr. Ugaia outlined the importance of this plan to TSC as:
Institutional Strengthening: Building a robust Commission with the capacity to manage over 70,000 teachers.
Financial Independence: Working toward a single-line budget to ensure teacher entitlements and salaries are prioritized without delay.
The Chairman said that the Teaching Service Development Plan focuses on professional standards and career pathways.
“We are implementing stricter screening to ensure only qualified professionals enter our system, while simultaneously providing those already in service with the professional development they need to thrive,” Mr. Ugaia said.
Mr. Ugaia call to the Minister for DHERST for the continued support in implementing the directives that were launched.
“We are facing challenges in infrastructure and funding, but with your advocacy at the Cabinet level, we can ensure these plans do not sit on shelves but transform lives in our schools,” Mr. Ugaia said.
The TSC Chairman concluded by stating that TSC has taken the directives and is ready for the next 50 years.
