Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police for NCD/Central Command, Benjamin Turi, has commended NCD police and other agencies for their efforts in raising  awareness traffic offenses.

Acknowledging public concerns raised about strikes by PMVs, he said most of roadworthy buses are operating while unroadworthy vehicles were off the road.

He said the public must not blame either the enforcement agencies or the bus owners.

“Both parties are doing the right thing to ensure the public enjoy the services they provide,” Mr Turi said.

“I want to thank the bus owners who have read news articles and other awareness messages regarding the enforcement of traffic laws.”

“We are not stopping you from doing business, but we want you to follow the laws in place so that you will not be afraid of law enforcement officers.”

Mr Turi also urged taxi owners, drivers, and other vehicle owners to adhere to the traffic laws.

“We all want a win-win outcome: you get your vehicles fixed before you are on the road, and I will be satisfied when I see roadworthy vehicles on the road,” said Turi.

“This is our city, and we must take ownership of it. The same applies to Central Province.”

ACP Turi reiterated that he was satisfied with the outcome of the awareness campaign and the police operation would begin to impound all road unworthy vehicles in the NCD.
