SP Hunters enforcer and one of the experience players in the pre-season camp, IIa Alu is glad to see new players working hard to carry the team forward.
The second rower said the team is all about giving every player an opportunity to prove themselves on the field of play regardless of experience.
He said the team have been in training for about 4 months now and that new players are already learning a lot from the experience players.
“Up in the Intrust (Hostplus) cup level, intensity of the game is very high, the speed of the game also and that’s what the boys get to learn as much as they can.
It doesn’t mean every session is perfect but as long as you get to understand the main outcome of the session and get to grow and learn, that’s something that all of us as a team pretty proud of.
Everyone is doing their best to try and understand to pay up at this level and at the end of the day this opportunity is given to everyone to represent the club (Hunters) and the country,” Alu said.
Koso Badi who usefully completed his Papua New Guinea National Rugby League Competition with Guias last season and is now with Hunters, also glad to work alongside players like Alu to hopefully secure a spot in the final Hunters squad.
“The pre-season training is really hard, but my family is very happy and are behind me,” Badi said.
Badi who is looking at making his debut for Hunters said, it is a privilege for him to be in the Hunters training camp and if he is given the opportunity to put on the hunter’s jersey, it will mean a lot for him and his family.
He further added that none from his family plays rugby league but their support is all that got him through his rugby league path from Gurias to now Hunters and like many other rugby league players, going on to representing the country is one of his aims.
