Community delivers four in-one classroom

By FREDRICK JEJERI

AN Elementary School in Morobe has launched a four in-one classroom building worth K79, 000 last week.

Lowai Elementary school in Wain Erap Local Level Government (LLG) in Nawaeb District launched the classroom building which was built through Tuition Free Fee (TFF) and parental component fee received annually over the years.

Despite many challenges, ward one, two, three and four in the upper part of Erap in Wain Erap LLG area managed to overcome the challenges to actually complete and launch the building.

Teacher In Charge (TIC) Mr. Dameng Doangi during the launching ceremony said that it took 10 years to build the classroom.

“I wish our local MP Hon. Theo Pelgen and Governor Hon. Luther Wenge were here to witness the launching of this valuable building built by the communities,” Mr. Doangi said.

“The materials of this building did not come through easy way. Members of three ward areas in upper Erap walked distances to move materials from Tinibe and Toroa villages to the school ground.

“The school could have completed the building within two or three years if the road was linked. It took 10 years because of delay in funding and transportation.

“If the road was linked to our area earlier on, we could have trade coffee and other businesses to help build more of such building to cater for our students and teachers as well,” he expressed.

“We do have the hearts of changing communities through self-reliance but the power to enable the movement has been lacking.

“We believe in self-reliance through equal participation in small economic activities but the biggest hinderance has been on road,” Dameng said.

He said over the years, the school had used TFF and the parental component fees to purchase materials with the support from the communities purposely to produce this result.

Deputy Bishop of Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELC) of Boana district, Pastor Bugao Meo during bestowing of blessings on the building commended the communities for exercising their faith.

He said though the hinderance was on lack of services, members of communities applied their faiths to deliver this important building for the benefit of their students.

Setting such building infrastructures at an elementary school level in a very remote area is a lifetime milestone.
