The Research Section of the Office of Censorship had conducted research fieldwork on Media and Sexual Content amongst young people in eleven (11) selected secondary schools within the four (4) regions of the country in 2020 and 2021, and have produced a Research Report on Media and Sexual Content 2022.
Chief Censor, Mr. Jim Abani gave his welcome remarks and thanked everyone for attending the National Stakeholder Consultation Workshop, which is a two days workshop and begins today with the official launching of the Research Report. The Report was officially launched by Hon. Jason Peter, Minister for Youth, Religion and Community Development, witnessed by Secretary for Community Development, Mr. Jerry Ubase and Director, NRI, Dr. Osborne Sanida and the stakeholders that were present as participants including the Office of Censorship Management Team.The research findings and recommendations from this report were presented to gauge views from the stakeholders. The workshop has brought together all relevant stakeholders from the Department of Community Development, National Research Institute, Family and Sexual Violence Unit, National Department of Education, PNG Council of Churches, the media including other key stakeholders that are in one way or another play an important role in addressing the issue of media and sexual content.
The workshop will continue tomorrow with Stakeholder presentations from Mrs. Delilah Sandeka, Director, Family and Sexual Violence Unit, Ms. Celine Vavetaovi, Acting Assistant Secretary, Business and Technology, National Department of Education, Reverend Roger Joseph, General Secretary, PNG Council of Churches including others. The workshop will conclude with a summary on Action Plan and Future Tasks and Strategies on the implementation of the recommendations.
