AS Papua New Guinea marked its 48th Independence celebration, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Papua New Guinea also received a generous gift that adds a modern touch to its academic endeavors.
In a symbolic gesture of international cooperation, the Chinese Embassy presented the school with two state-of-the-art, multi-purpose large television screens.
These high-tech screens, a testament to the enduring friendship between Papua New Guinea and China, will undoubtedly enhance the learning environment within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
School of Humanities and Social Sciences Executive Dean, Profession Leo Marai said the screens’ multi-functionality will benefit students and faculty alike, offering a platform for interactive learning and academic presentations.
He said this generous gift underscores the significance of international collaboration in today’s interconnected world.
The gift was a culmination of a promise made by Chinese Ambassador to PNG, H.E, Zeng Fanhua, during UPNG’s graduation early this year.
During the graduation Fanhua promised to support the school of Humanities and Social Sciences especially the Journalism and Public Relations strand with necessary equipment.
Fanhua when presenting the screens to the school on Thursday, said development of higher education is an important indicator of a country’s progress and potential.
“This is a key experience that the Chinese have learned from decades of rapid development, which we want to share with PNG friends to advance development,” he said.
“Since I became the Chinese Ambassador to PNG more than two years ago, I have always attached great importance to China-PNG education cooperation, and actively promoted donations to PNG schools and the establishment of China-PNG sister schools.”
UPNG Vice Chancellor Professor Frank Griffin also thanked the embassy for their support.
He alluded that the screens will greatly impact the school by providing interactive learning for the students.
