THE President of Lae Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mr. John Byrne boldly told the graduating grade twelve (12) students of the Wawin National School of Excellence to utilise their thoughts and not their certificates.
He uttered this while delivering his speech as a keynote speaker at the school’s 23rd graduation ceremony in Lae yesterday.
A total of 200 grade twelve (12) students graduated in flying colours.
“Your certificate is just a piece of paper just to prove your learning in the classroom.
“It is not your certificate that will transform your community and this nation.
“Pin your certificate on your room wall, keep it away and do things from your thoughts.
“What you have learnt in the classroom should be in your mind now.
“Do things from your thoughts as it is your thoughts and actions that will change this society,” Mr. Byrne said.
“As you go out, do not let negativity drag you down from doing things.
“Keep the spirit of never give up as you stand ready to face this challenging world.
“Keep this fighting spirit with you, achieve high and repay your parents and sponsors efforts and resources.”
School Principal Mr. Pal Pu on behalf of the school thanked the parents, surrounding communities and the stakeholders for their continuous supports that resulted in successfully passing its grade twelve students.
“Despite countless challenges the school has gone through, you all gave a wonderful support, which has placed the school to come to this stage by successfully graduating its 2023 grade 12 students.
“Parents and sponsors, your time and efforts are not wasted, you have invested in this generation who will be studying Science Technology Engineering Mathematics, STEM at the highest level of learning to change this country.
“You have made a wise decision to invest in this future human resources which government is also prioritising with good funding support,” Pu said.
