PNG Pepes continues winning streak

THE PNG Pepes is currently on an impressive winning streak, having secured three consecutive victories in their determined pursuit of victory at the Mirxes Nations Cup in Singapore.
Their next challenge will be taking on the reigning Asian champions, Sri Lanka, today (Wednesday, October 25, 2023) at 5 pm.
In a remarkable display of dominance during their match against Singapore’s A team on day three of the competition, the PNG Pepes clinched a resounding 52-40 victory.
This outstanding performance catapulted them to the top of the competition table. The momentum has been steadily building for the PNG Pepes, commencing with their opening triumph of 52-50 against Singapore, followed by a 34-52 victory over Canada.
As they continue to revel in their successes in Singapore, the PNG Pepes are poised to carry this positive energy with them to the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands scheduled for November.
The PNG Pepes’ goal shooter, Rowyna Vele, who made her debut in the competition opener, expressed her team’s commitment to executing their coach’s instructions to the best of their abilities.
“We’ve won three games, so I’m quite confident that we can secure the Nation’s Cup,” Vele affirmed.
The PNG team is set to face Sri Lanka, the current champions of Asia, today at 5 pm. Vele remains confident that the Pepes will maintain their unbeaten streak by adhering to the fundamentals that have propelled them to success in their past three games.
“We’ll play the game we’ve been playing, starting with our strongest players. Depending on our performance, we may make minor adjustments as advised by the coach,” she said.
As of day three of the competition, on Tuesday, 24th October 2023, the points table shows the undefeated PNG Pepes leading with six points, followed closely by Singapore with four points. Sri Lanka is currently in third place with two points, while Singapore A, Canada, and the Cook Islands all have two points each, having each suffered a loss.
