HEKARI United Football Club General Manager Vonnie Kapi Nato has challenged the upcoming young players to refrain from bad influences but be disciplined and focus on their dreams.
Kapi-Natto, who is one of the prominent women in PNG behind the success of football in PNG, is passionate about nurturing youngsters in the code.
“I just want to encourage all the young girls out there, it is better you don’t listen to anyone but yourself, your drive, your dream and your vision to play at a higher level,” she said. “We have so many talented players and discipline is something that I am looking forward to because I have a big academy which I am spreading out in the country.
“I really want to have more young girls in our team in the coming years.
“I always believe that discipline is the key of success.
“I don’t believe undisciplined players getting into the sports and expect to beat a well-disciplined team from other country.
“This is something PNG needs to work on.”
Kapi-Nato said the recent success of Hekari Women’s team who made it to the grand final was because of their compliance to the rules and regulations that were given.
“I am just hoping that they would maintain that, if we want to go further.
“I am challenging everyone in my organisation with Hekari, our academy, to my youth’s teams to all our senior girls, boys, I really want to see them more like role models.
“I don’t believe in the player pretending that I can be a good player but at the back of you, you are very bad at alcohol, drugs and smoke.
“We have to stop all that,” She said.
Kapi-Natto believes that: “If only we do away with undisciplined behaviors and draw discipline into our life as part our life and into the sports then we will be able to defeat any team.
“If we don’t have the discipline then how do we expect to beat the team that have the very good discipline in them? Discipline is the key to success and that’s how I operate.”
She encouraged young girls and the upcoming top players in the country not to be influenced by bad habits.
“Great thing to do is, love your sport, love your education, listen to your parents as you grow up and be passionate about soccer if you want to play in the highest level.”
