MINISTER for Education Hon Lucas Dawa Dekena says teachers should be in the classroom beginning last week teaching students for the term -three academic year.
“I understand the 2024 National Census for data collection has been extended for another two weeks. I am also aware that teachers are also taking part in data collection which requires collective effort for the good course,” Dekena said.
“According to the National Statistic office a total of 17,000 teachers have participated during the term two holidays. Now that the data collection time frame has been extended, individuals’ schools should make arrangements to help with the data collection, giving priority to students’ learning.
“These includes preparing lessons for students in their (teachers) absence to assist in the Census. We also have National exams coming up for Grade Ten, Twelve and timing is of essence for teachers to prepare students for the important events.
The National Census is vital for our country in order for the government to do proper planning from the data collection, as well as our children’s welfare.”
Meanwhile, Minister Dekena acknowledged teachers who are taking part in data collection as it underscores the importance of the country moving forward.
