NINE (9) young people from Samarai-Murua District will have the honour of becoming the first batch of students selected from the district to study at the Adamson University in Manila, the Philippines.
Member for Samarai-Murua Hon. Isi Henry Leonard in a press conference today introduced the students and congratulated them on their selection to attend studies overseas.
“My District Office (DDA) signed an MOA with Papua New Guinea Affiliation International Agency (PNGAIA) by tasking the Agency to bring my students to study in Adamson University.
“The nine students that are now confirmed to study in the Adamson University by this August are all from the four (4) Local Level Governments in my district,” Mr Leonard said.
Adding that he collectively recruited students from the four LLGS who then went through a selection process through a committee consisting of the District Education Adviser and DDA reps and him as the Chairman, “ Mr Leonard said.
When he was first voted into the National Parliament in 2017, he prioritized ‘Human Capital’ as one of the important projects in his district.
“Education is among the priorities that I put more budget into. Because I want to develop human resources back in the district. I have been sponsoring my district students their full tuition fees through all higher institutions across the country,” Mr Leonard said.
“I want to take up one more step to put icing on the cake to show the pathway to my district regarding the Education Program to bring my students to ‘outside exposer’ they can have access to through the Adamson University in the Philippines,” he added.
He said it was not all about learning in the classroom, but the environment exposer, cultural exposer, industrial exposer, human interactions, and it comes to the skills and learning exposer.
Adding that all these contributed to the pillar of human development and they would bring all these exposers back with them to the district after they graduate.
“Education will be my lifelong legacy for the next generation in my district,” Mr Leonard said.
From the total of nine students, seven (7) will take up academic studies from the Adamson University while the other two will attend to TVET courses respectively.
All these students will be on full sponsorship under the leadership of Mr Leonard as the MP.
“Again, I want to boost human capital in my district and I will continue to support this Scholarship Program until 2027 and beyond as I believe in Human Development and when I invest in human resources, I know that I will never go wrong,” Mr Leonard said.
