26 PNG fighters to compete in Spain

PNG Boxing Federation President, Stanley Nandex, has confirmed that 26 fighters will participate in the upcoming World Championship in Spain this November.

Mr. Nandex made the announcement on Tuesday at the new MMA gym in Koki, revealing that the team consists of 20 male and 6 female fighters who have been undergoing a rigorous selection process over the past two years.

“We held national championships, and the selection process was very tough. We have chosen the best of the best,” Nandex said.

“There are two divisions: one in kickboxing and the other in K-1, with male fighters ranging from 45 kg to 90 kg, and female fighters between 54 kg and 70 kg.”

He further explained that each fighter will compete in their respective weight divisions.
“In total, we have 26 athletes who have been named to the national team,” he said.

Nandex also mentioned that they are currently working on fundraising activities, with the PNG Sports Foundation providing strong support.

Addressing the athletes, Nandex emphasized that the focus should not be on the trip itself or other major events but on achieving victory for the country.

“A lot of resources, hard work, and preparation have gone into this. What I’m telling my athletes is that this is about doing their best for the country—not just personal bests, not just first-time experiences, but producing results,” he said.

R “For too long, we’ve made excuses at the international level. My time was different—I didn’t waste time, and I achieved everything within a short period,” he said

He challenged all the fighters, both male and female, to strive for medals for the country.
“This isn’t about a month’s preparation or biased selections; it’s about doing everything you can to achieve bigger goals,” Nandex added.
