THE Papua New Guinea Kickboxing Federation (PNGKBF) calls for support from the Sports Ministry and other corporate companies for a cause that has the power to significantly elevate Papua New Guinea’s global standing and invigorate nation’s economy.

President of the PNGKBF, Chief, Stanley Nandex said the federation has consistently showcased the strength and spirit of the nation on the international stage, breaking barriers and forging unity through the sport of kickboxing.

He said, now the country’s talented athletes are preparing to represent PNG at the World Kickboxing Championships in Alicante, Spain, from November 18th to 23rd, 2024.

He said this championship is more than just a competition; it is a pivotal moment for PNG’s future in global sports.

“Our success in Spain will significantly bolster our chances to win the bid to host the 2026 World Kickboxing Championships in Port Moresby.

“Competing against formidable contenders like Colombia and China, our ability to secure this event will not only put PNG on the map but will also bring substantial economic benefits to our country,” the PNGKBF president said.

Nandex added that hosting 75 different countries in 2026 will catalyse economic growth across multiple sectors, including tourism, hospitality, transportation, and local business development.

“It will attract international attention, drive foreign investment, and create jobs, all while showcasing the vibrant culture and natural beauty of Papua New Guinea.

“The influx of visitors and media coverage will position PNG as a prime destination for global events and tourism.”

He said currently, PNG Sports Foundation is committed to working alongside with PNGKBF to see this vision come to fruition.

Nandex said, as the 2024 recipient of the SP Sports-Community Initiative Award, the PNGKBF has demonstrated its capacity for humanitarian outreach, advocacy, and its impactful work in addressing critical social issues such as violence, drugs, and illegal activities in some of our most challenging provinces, including Hela, Enga, Southern Highlands, Simbu, and Eastern Highlands.

“The Federation’s efforts have aligned with our national development goals, particularly in driving youth engagement, promoting peace, and fostering unity.

“We believe that sports have the unique power to transcend politics, race, and social barriers, promoting peace and unity among nations.

“As a vital pillar of our government’s Vision 2050 strategy, sports development remains integral to shaping a progressive PNG.

“To ensure our athletes have the opportunity to compete on the world stage and to maximize our chances in the bid process, we need the financial support.

“The total cost for this endeavor is approximately Seven Hundred Thousand Kina (K700,000), a goal that requires the collaborative effort of our corporate partners,” Nandex said.

The general Secretary of the PNG Kickboxing Federation, Mr. Eddie Kavina said expressed similar sentiments.

Kavina said: “The contribution will not only empower our athletes but also position the organization who supports in this event as a leader in promoting sports, youth development, and nation-building. By supporting the PNG Kickboxing Federation, you are investing in the future of PNG—where sports, economic growth, and national pride intersect, said Kavina. We sincerely invite any corporate entities, Government ministries such as Tourism Promotion, Arts and Culture or Coffee Ministry to partner with us on this remarkable journey. Together, we can make history and propel Papua New Guinea to the forefront of global sports and economic development said Kavina.
