Cement, Lime project in Central to boost economy

THE Central Cement and Limestone wharf project in Central Province will boost the economy, producing quick lime and clinker/cement enhancing the building infrastructure projects and manufactured building materials in the country.

Minister for Mining Hon. Wake Goi along with Member for Hiri Koiari, Hon. Keith Iduhu were at the construction site recently to inspect the phase 2 of the Wharf and the Cement and Lime project.

This project signifies Papua New Guinea’s first Greenfield mining venture in 16 years after Ramu Nico started construction back in 2008.

“The Central Cement and Lime Project is not just a testament to our nation’s diverse rich mineral resources but also a beacon of our strategic vision to harness these assets for sustainable development,” Minister Goi said.

He pointed out the innovative fiscal policies that is being carried out, with the Special Economic (SEZ) framework aimed to allow for foreign investments.

Minister Goi reiterated on the Government’s fiscal policies in the SEZ, amplifying their commitment to creating investor-friendly environment.

“The progress we witnessed today is a direct result of these policies, reflecting the confidence foreign direct investors have in Papua New Guinea economic potential,” he stressed.

Minister Goi alluded to the Prime Minister Marape’ statement of generating manufactured exports locally through the resources sector that would add value to the economy and do away with imports into the country.

The Mining Minister said the progress is a positive indication to helping local communities, driving economic growth forward and creating job opportunities as well as sustainable development.
