THE Waigani Christian College (WCC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Philippines Christian University (PCU) to offer university courses here at the Waigani Campus for four years (2025-2028).

Papua New Guineans who are wishing to study abroad need to look no further as the Philippines Christian University- Papua New Guinea Campus (PCU-PNG Campus) will be offering internationally recognized university education.

From left Governor for Jiwaka Simon Kaiwi, Philippines Christian University- Papua New Guinea Campus Vice Chancellor Dr Margie Dela Cruz and First Secretary to Minister for Department of Higher Education, Research and Technology Chapman Namaro cutting the ribbons to the new lecture rooms.

Director and Founder of WCC and Member for North Waghi Benjamin Mul said the main purpose of the university is to give quality education to Papua New Guineans.

“Our population is increasing and we need more universities for the children who are dropping out of school system due to space shortages.”

“Philippines Christian University is 79 years old and is one of the oldest universities in the Philippines that enrolls 36 thousand students annually with 8 campuses around the world offering internationally recognized courses,” said MP Mul.

The happy director and founder of the institution also presented two new 25 seater buses to new administration of PCU-PNG Campus and opened 14 new classrooms too.

Vice Chancellor for Philippines Christian University-Papua New Guinea Campus Dr Margie dela Cruz expressed her excitement stating this occasion is significant and is excited to venture into the Pacific.

“Today marks a promising journey of academic exchange, innovation and challenges. We will use technology to its fullest potential in providing quality education”, she said.

“We’ve engaged in meaningful discussions with Minister for Higher Education already and we are particularly excited about teaching students and helping them reach their full potential,” said Dr Cruz.

Classes at PCU-PNG Campus will commence around June this year once a few regulatory and procedural requirements are finalized and met.

Classes will be conducted online via video Conferencing and through zoom.

The minimum entry requirements for the various programs will be an average of 2.6 and above varying on different courses.

The only course that will NOT be taught at PCU-PNG Campus is Law.

To kick start the academic year, there are three (3) academic staff already on the ground along with the PCU-PNG Campus Vice Chancellor.
