THE Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea (BFPNG) has received K1.25 million sponsorship from Kumul Mineral Holdings Ltd (KMHL).
BFPNG announced this historic sponsorship in a media conference on Monday, March 17 2025 at the Tribes Coffee Club in Port Moresby.
Manager Director for External Affairs, Mr. Philip Manda, on behalf of the state-owned entity, presented a K1.25 million cheque to the BFPNG President, Mr. David Peter, and BFPNG’s Patron, Mr. Charles Able.
“It is a significant moment for us at KMHL to collaborate with Basketball to enhance the sporting landscape in our country,” Mr. Manda said.

“Basketball is deeply rooted in every village, church, school, and community, yet its talents remain untapped.
“We are thrilled to partner with BFPNG to nurture these talents. Kumul Minerals Holdings Limited proudly takes on the role of the major sponsor of Basketball.”
Expressing gratitude, BFPNG Patron, Mr. Charles Able acknowledged KMHL’s dedication to supporting BFPNG in elevating sports both at the international and local levels.
“The backing and sponsorship provided will not only propel basketball and PNG on the global stage but will also significantly impact the local sports scene,” remarked Mr. Able.
Mr. David Peter extended heartfelt appreciation to KMHL for their sponsorship and assistance.
He said the support from KMHL will see Basketball showcased on the international stage, with the national team set to participate in four significant events this year alone.
Mr. Peter said the upcoming events include the 3×3 Asia Cup in Singapore, the Mini Pacific Games in Palau, the FIBA Melanesian Cup, and the FIBA U17 Championships.
He said the sponsorship from KMHL will significantly enhance BFPNG’s National Championships and Regional Championships, thereby promoting the development of basketball in Papua New Guinea.
“The funds will be allocated to support both our local and international events,” Mr. Peter added.
