TEAM Papua New Guinea is pitching up for the upcoming World Expo which is scheduled to be held in Osaka, Japan, from April 13 to October 13, 2025.
The Commissioner General of Section PNG, Ambassador Gabriel Dusava is expected lead his core team and depart the country this weekend.
Speaking ahead of the trip, Ambassador Dusava explained that his team has a greater responsibility to deliver for the country whilst attending the Expo.
While highlighting the importance of the event, Mr. Dusaba stated that the event is as unique in a way that is bilaterally focused and the government have expectations and goals that need achieved for PNG as a nation.
“So, we have to go and deliver for the country and at the same time bring something back for the country,” he explained.
“That is why, Minister Maru’s initiative to have Osaka Expo itself is a stepping stone to other significant things because Osaka is an assembler of a population. It’s a meeting together of a population.”
The government has thrown in a huge support for the expo with a funding of K8.6 million.
Other support from companies and organisations would add up to over K10 million for the Osaka trip.
The expo will feature more virtual presentation of contents and Mr. Dusava confirmed they have reached out to various sectors who are interested to submit a compilation of videos which will be combined and integrated and send to Japan.
“Three weeks ago, they accepted our videos which will be run in our pavilion as well as the global network throughout the six months period,” said Ambassador Dusava.
He further elaborated that they have prepared their different stakeholders to attend the different workshops that will be conducted and is going to happen in different cities of Japan- Kansai, Osaka and Tokyo.
“Our stakeholders have been informed to look at the different workshops being offered, decide which one they want to attend based on what their own facts and responsibilities are,” Mr. Dusava said.
He acknowledged Governor for Central Province Hon. Rufina Peter who has had close consultations with Minister Maru and the team for possible connection and relationship through province to prefecture relationship in Japan.
The team has taken on the task to make arrangement for Governor Rufina’s meeting with relevant governor or officers of the prefecture when she travel to Tokyo.
“The other significant initiative is to establish discussions and engagement with the Japanese cooperatives,” Mr. Dusava pointed out.
