PNG Power Ltd confirms that at approximately 10:00pm on Tuesday, 6 January 2026, a bullet penetrated the glass frontage of the company’s Headquarters building in Port Moresby. The incident occurred during off-hours and fortunately no staff were harmed.

Police authorities were promptly notified and have since visited the site. An official investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the event. Preliminary assessment conducted by PNG Power’s internal security team suggest that the gunfire may have originated from a disturbance that occurred directly opposite the Head Office premises. Reports indicate that an unmarked vehicle—believed to be a police patrol—discharged three rounds in an attempt to disperse a commotion in the area. It is suspected that one of these rounds may have inadvertently struck the Head Quarters building’s side glass.

PNG Power Ltd is cooperating fully with law enforcement agencies and will continue to provide all necessary support to ensure a thorough investigation is carried out. The safety of our staff and the security of our facilities remain paramount, and we are taking additional steps to review and strengthen security protocols across all sites.

The Chief Finance Officer of PPL, Peter Mell has assured the staff to remain calm and allow the authorities to complete their inquiries. PNG Power Ltd remains committed to transparency and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
