The Papua New Guinea Nurses Association (PNGNA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Southern Cross Assurance Limited (SCAL) to improve welfare and insurance support for nurses nationwide.

The agreement will provide PNGNA members with access to tailored insurance products aimed at strengthening financial security and overall support for healthcare workers.

Chairman of Southern Cross Assurance Limited, Roxon Undi, said the company is also investing in improving healthcare access for its clients.

“As part of our commitment, we are currently developing a state-of-the-art medical facility, which will ensure easier access to quality healthcare services once completed,” he said.

He added that SCAL has also established agreements with existing quality medical service providers across the country to support its clients.

Undi said the partnership reflects SCAL’s commitment to supporting frontline workers beyond traditional insurance coverage.

President of the Papua New Guinea Nurses Association, Mr Frederick Kebai, welcomed the agreement, describing it as a major boost for nurses and their families.

“This is a positive step for our members, providing access to reliable insurance and healthcare support,” Kebai said.

Under the MOU, SCAL will provide a range of insurance services, including medical and other benefit schemes tailored specifically for nurses.

Both parties expressed confidence that the partnership will strengthen support systems for nurses and contribute to the country’s healthcare sector.
