PNG Indigenous team off to winning start at 2026 National Indigenous Cricket Championships

The Papua New Guinea Indigenous team have made a strong start to their campaign at the 2026 National Indigenous Cricket Championships (NICC) Mackay, Australia, defeating Queensland Indigenous by 8 wickets Today (Tuesday 14 April) in Yuwibara Country.

Queensland Indigenous won the toss and batted first, posting 4/123 from their innings. In response, the PNG chased down the target comfortably, reaching 2/129, securing a strong 8-wicket victory to open their 2026 National Indigenous Cricket Championships campaign.

A composed all-round performance led by standout innings from Tony Ura, who was named Player of the Match after top scoring with 64 runs.

The victory marks a positive opening result for PNG as they begin their fixtures at the tournament running from Tuesday 14 to Sunday 19 April 2026.
