The City Lane Nipa Souths Basketball Team has received a major boost ahead of the 2026 National Souths Basketball League edition after being presented with new sets of jerseys valued at K3,200.

The jerseys were donated by Mr. Jeffrey Mol through Luckybet777 during the team’s training session at Gordons in Port Moresby yesterday.

The presentation ceremony was attended by Team Manager Samuel Bip, Coach Martin Paul, and Trainer Patrick Steven, alongside players from both the men’s and women’s divisions.

Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Mol said he was pleased to support the team and encourage young athletes pursuing basketball.

“I am pleased to present these new sets of jerseys for both the men’s and women’s teams. It is not about chasing fame or competing with anybody, but about helping our own people when they need support,” he said.

“The dream you have of playing basketball and representing a team is now an opportunity before you. Make the most of it and use it wisely,” Mr. Mol added.

He said the support followed a request made by the team and assured players that he would continue supporting their development in the future.

Team Manager Samuel Bip thanked Mr. Mol and Luckybet777 for stepping forward to support the club, describing them as the first sponsors to assist the team.

“We started from scratch last year to bring the City Lane Nipa Souths team into the national tournament. Despite the challenges, we made it through and were awarded the Most Improved Team of the Year. This year, we are aiming for something even better,” Bip said.

He also highlighted the lack of support from elites and leaders originating from Nipa, despite the team proudly representing the district at national level competitions.

“Nipa is a remote area where many discussions revolve around politics and tribal fights, but through basketball we are trying to promote positive change,” he said.

Mr. Bip added that the team is advocating for healthy lifestyles, mental health awareness, discipline, and personal growth among young people through sports.

Coach Martin Paul and Trainer Patrick Steven also expressed gratitude to Luckybet777, saying the donation would motivate the players as they prepare for the upcoming season.

The City Lane Nipa Souths remains the only team from Nipa District in Southern Highlands Province registered to compete in the 2026 National Souths Basketball League, which officially kicks off this week.
