THE Teaching Service Commission (TSC) yesterday has launched the official TSC Website marking a transformation of manual record-keeping to digital platform in a new era of accountability and modernization for nearly 70, 000 teachers who serve Papua New Guinea (PNG).
The Acting TSC Chairman, Maini Ugaia, while giving his remarks said the Commission has relied on manual record-keeping for 53 years and this launching break that cycle to embrace a future defined by digital efficiency and strategic clarity.
“I am particularly proud to launch our new digital gateway,” Mr. Ugaia said.
Mr. Ugaia highlighted that through the TSC Website,
teachers can now:
●Access and download essential appointment and leave forms.
●Check policies and circulars without traveling to the capital.
●Bridge the communication gap between the Commission and the classroom.
The Acting TSC Chairman noted that coordination of teachers’ attendance, performance, accountability and timely remuneration of salaries and entitlements has been the biggest challenges over five decades.
He said that digitizing the TSC is a major step toward better governance.
“By moving records online, the government can identify “ghost names,” clean the payroll, and stop the waste of public funds,” Mr. Ugaia said.
“This ensures that every Kina intended for education reaches the hardworking teachers who build our nation.”
He added that the launching is for the teachers as the TSC has heard their challenges-the travel costs, the appointment delays, the salaries and retirement concerns. Now, teachers can access information at their fingertips.
The Minister for DHERST and Acting Minister for Education, Kinoka Feo, in his keynote speech highlighted the struggle of the rural teachers that travels to provincial centres or Port Moresby just to check a file or download a form.
“This website brings the Commission to the teacher’s doorstep, providing instant access to information, policies, and digital services,” Mr. Feo said.
The Minister urged stakeholders to revive this tool and work with renewed strength to serve the teachers who educate the children in PNG.
