THE Marape-Rosso Government has officially announced the immediate cessation of operations and the formal closure of the physical presence of the Chinese Taipei Economic Office (Taiwan) in the country.
This decisive action follows National Executive Council (NEC) Decision No. 144/2026. In strict accordance with this executive directive, the physical presence of Chinese Taipei will no longer be recognized or required within the jurisdiction of Papua New Guinea.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Justin W. Tkatchenko, has formally communicated this decision to His Excellency, Mr. Yang Xiaoguang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Papua New Guinea last week.
Minister Tkatchenko emphasized that this administrative action underscores the Marape-Rosso Government’s unwavering commitment to honoring, respecting, and upholding Papua New Guinea’s foundational One-China Policy, which has served as the bedrock of the nation’s foreign policy framework for over 50 years since the establishment of bilateral relations.
“The National Government views this administrative alignment as a vital and necessary step toward deepening state-to-state trust, reinforcing our shared values, and elevafing the bilateral relationship between Papua New
Guinea and the People’s Republic of China to unprecedented levels.” Minister Tkatchenko stated.
Papua New Guinea deeply values its long-standing, strong partnership with the People’s Republic of China.
