Apanaipi Village in the North Mekeo of Kairuku District ,Central Province has Introduced a new sporting initiative bringing Taekwondo for the first time through a community-based workshop aimed at empowering young people through sport, discipline, fitness and cultural values.

The workshop seeks to introduce participants to the fundamentals of Taekwondo while promoting discipline, respect, confidence, physical fitness, teamwork and positive leadership.

The program will also encourage young people to appreciate and preserve their strong cultural identity while embracing new opportunities through sport.

Team leader Theresa Tau said this initiative was developed as a community-driven program, with the vision of creating a pathway for talented young people in the area to participate in Taekwondo at provincial, national and potentially international levels.

“We are therefore appealing to the Central Province Sports Desk, local businesses, corporate organisations, community leaders and other stakeholders to support this initiative,” Tau said.

“Assistance in the form of sports equipment, uniforms,  transportation, funding, refreshments or other resources would greatly contribute to making the workshop successful,” she added.

As a new sport being introduced to the area, this program has the potential to become a long-term opportunity for the youth of Apanaipi and surrounding communities. Touna believes that investing in the young people today creates stronger, healthier and more disciplined communities tomorrow.

Tau acknowledged the full support of Mekeo Rural Local Level Government President Edward Kekele and the Apanaipi Village Councilor and leaders.

“We invite businesses and organisations willing to support this initiative to partner with us in bringing Taekwondo to Apanaipi Village and helping establish a sustainable sporting program for the community,” she said.
