The inaugural season of the Kaugere Darts Competition is moving into the top eight playoffs and finals this weekend. The top eight playoffs will begin on Saturday, followed by the grand finals on Sunday.
The dartboards will be set up at the Kaugere Basketball Court, a central gathering point for the community during special occasions.
With the aim of promoting inclusivity, gender equality, and community participation, the competition has given equal opportunities to women and girls to compete alongside and against men and boys.
Over the last two months, many parts of the community have embraced darts—a sport that is completely new to the area. From street to street, dartboards can now be seen everywhere.
Similar to other sports, darts teaches players the importance of teamwork, bonding, commitment, effort, and dedication, helping them become better athletes.
Kaugere Darts Competition Manager Mr. Samson Tokiala thanked the participating teams and congratulated the top eight teams advancing to the finals.
“On behalf of the officials and management, we would like to thank all the participating teams in our first season. Thank you for your participation, and thank you to your sponsors and supporters as well,” Tokiala said.
“To the teams advancing into the playoffs and finals, we wish you all the best. May the best team win,” he added.
Meanwhile, the tournament provides a business opportunity for local mothers to run small market stalls. It also exposes community-level talent and motivates players to participate in other major competitions across the city.
