THE Commander of the National Capital District and Central Province, Benjamin Turi, has confirmed that two alleged suspects in relation to a murder case at 14 Mile earlier this week were surrendered to police by leaders from Kagua-Erave, Southern Highlands.
​Commander Turi, who was at Boroko Police Station to receive the suspects from the leaders, said it is good that the suspects have been brought forward to the police. Police will investigate to determine the cause of the three alleged killings that occurred in the city and were circulated on social media.
He noted that there had been no formal complaints from the deceased persons’ families regarding the deaths. He added that regarding the alleged murder cases at 14 Mile, 12 Mile, and 8 Mile, formal police complaints must be lodged so officers can commence their investigation.
He also mentioned that many rumors had been circulating on social media sites, causing fear on both sides.
​”Leaders from Kagua have come forward with two alleged suspects. We are yet to receive formal complaints from Tari; they need to lodge a formal complaint along with the names of the deceased they claim were killed,” Turi said.
 He also warned those circulating unverified information online to stop, as the matter is now with the police and Criminal Investigation Division officers are working on it. “I want the other party to also bring in their suspects so we can all work together to identify who themurderers are.”
​He further thanked the leaders from Kagua for coming to the police station and entrusting the matter to the authorities. He noted that according to social media posts, three deaths were alleged during the Independence week: one at 14 Mile, one at 12 Mile, and one at 8 Mile.
He stated that the death of the man from the Southern Highlands has been confirmed, as well as the victim killed at 12 Mile, while police are still working to confirm the alleged incident at 14 Mile.
He urged the relatives of these alleged victims to come forward to the police immediately.
​While acknowledging the actions of the Kagua leaders, Commander Turi stated that this is the way forward that leaders in the city must take to ensure the community remains safe and trouble-free.
He again warned social media users to be mindful of what they post and share online.
Lastly, he mentioned that police will be conducting road checks on suspicious vehicles and asked the public to assist officers so those attempting to cause trouble can be arrested and charged.
