TWO students from the University of Goroka (UOG) successfully completed their six-week Industrial training with the Consultative Implementation and Monitoring Council (CIMC) and the Institute of National Affairs (INA), both describing their time with the organizations as an eye-opening learning experience.
Frank Aisanga, a final-year Planning and Development Studies student, and Ismael Ninten, a final year Accounting student, commenced their six-week industrial attachment on 10 August 2026.
The two were farewelled with a lunch hosted by the staff of CIMC and INA, providing them an opportunity to reflect on and share what they had learned during their tenure.
CIMC Executive Officer Mrs. Wallis Yakam, commenting on the successful completion of their training, highlighted the importance of developing the country’s human capital.
“CIMC believes in developing the human capital of the nation, knowing that it is the most vital asset for nation-building and advancement,” Mrs. Yakam said.
She added that the placement offered the students a platform to apply classroom theory to professional practice while building valuable experience for future career opportunities.
“Field experience gives them the chance to gain practical technical skills and knowledge,” she said.
INA and CIMC Finance and Administration Manager Ms. Cathy Gairo was also present and acknowledged the trainees’ meaningful contributions to both organizations throughout the six weeks.
Sharing his experience, trainee student Aisanga said he gained significant insights, particularly through assisting during the recently held National Development Forum (NDF).
“I learned a lot from INA and CIMC while taking part in the National Development Forum. Ever since I was a child, I always dreamed of being in an audience like the one I experienced at the NDF,” Aisanga said.
“On behalf of Ishmael and myself, thank you to INA, CIMC, and everyone for this opportunity.”
Both students expressed their keen interest in returning to work with the two organizations in the future if given the chance.
