THE Minerals Resources Development Company (MRDC) has announced the appointment of Ms Charlotte Mathews to the board of its corporate subsidiary, the Mineral Resources CMCA (MRCMCA).
The appointment is historic as it marks the first time that an MRDC corporate trustee has expressly provided for a dedicated Women’s Director Position within its constitution
“This is an historic appointment for the MRDC Group and I welcome Ms Mathews to the Board of MRCMCA. This milestone reflects our commitment to inclusive participation, diversity and meaningful participation of women in corporate governance and decision making,” MRDC Managing Director Mr Augustine Mano said.
The inclusion of a women’s representative followed extensive consultations with the CMCA communities in Western province, and the board, during which it was agreed that the composition of the MRCMCA Board should reflect the principles of inclusive representations across the 8 trust regions, including dedicated representation for women.
As Ms Mathews currently sits on the board of the Ok Tedi Development Foundation Board representing women and children, it was resolved that she be appointed to the board of MRCMCA.
Mr Mano welcomed her experience, leadership and deep commitment to the interest of the CMCA beneficiaries. He said her appointment takes effect immediately and will be for a four year period.
MRCMCA is the corporate trustee responsible for holding and managing the 12% equity interest in the Ok Tedi Mine on behalf of the 156 CMCA villages across the 8 trust regions.
MRDC is the shareholder and manager of MRCMCA.
