EHPG to pay school fee for students

By PEARSON KOLO

IT’S free education this year for students in High and Secondary Schools in the Eastern Highlands province, thanks to Governor Peter Numu.

This is because the Eastern Highlands Provincial Government (EHPG) under the leadership of governor Numu is paying for the parents’ component of the school fees this year while the balance is met by the national government school fee subsidy component.

Governor Numu announced this week that Eastern Highlands students enrolled in grades 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 in schools throughout the province will not pay any school fees this year.

Mr Numu said the support comes under the provincial education programs and informed all school principals and boards to register students to start classes and not to turn them away for school fee reasons.

“All school fees for secondary and high school students in the Eastern Highlands province will be paid by the provincial government and I ask schools to register the students for classes.

“As long as you are enrolled in grade 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 in high and secondary schools across Eastern Highlands province and you are an Eastern Highlander, there will be free education for you this year,” Mr Numu said.

The Governor assured principals and school boards that the payments will be made directly into their school bank accounts.

“I have directed the provincial administrator, education director and the provincial education board to release the funds accordingly and that high and secondary schools in the province should not charge any fees on their students,” Mr Numu stressed.

Mr Numu said investing in a child’s education is the responsibility of the parents but the provincial government is assisting this year because of the effectives of Covid-19 on the parents’ preparedness to pay their children’s school fees this year.

The governor asked all the parents to use this time wisely and to continue assisting their children in their education.
