THE Papua New Guinea Trade Union Congress believes the three new ministries that were created under the Agriculture sector would see massive employment creation for Papua New Guineans.
The General Secretary of the Congress, Clemence Kanau said this would happen if things were done well and according to the plans that we laid out in these new ministries of Livestock, Coffee and Oil Palm.
Kanau said on Thursday that the Congress was happy for the announcement of these ministries as they would address something that they had always advocated for, which was employment creation.
“When we create employment, when we provide minimum wage, pay, and rice and tinned fish for our Papua New Guineans, we keep our economy growing, so as our monetary strength in the country because money goes back to Papua New Guinea.”
Kanau said the agriculture sector had been a mainstay since pre-independence and it had sustained the country’s economy prior to gas, oil and gold.
“They became dormant due to excitements by governments along the way.
“Congratulations to the Marape-Rosso government, particularly to the prime minister for reinstating and making the industry as conduit for building a powerful nation.
“If we take our position right in agriculture, we are confident that we would address a lot outstanding issues and problems that we face today,” he said.
