Motu Koita condemns attacks

THE Governing Council of the newly formed Central Motu Koita (CMK) Convention made up of all Central MPs, Governor Central, Governor NCD, Motu Koitabu Assembly Chairman, Patron Member for Moresby North West and its Executives has condemned the vicious attacks on the Vabukori Village community by settlers from Horse Camp and Tainaladeara after a dead body was washed ashore at Vabukori on Friday 30th September, 2022.

These baseless attacks come less than a month after Chief Gomara Gaudi of Baruni was brutally murdered as he resisted pressure to sell their traditional land to outsiders.

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms the attacks and terrorising of our Motu Koitabu Villagers and Landowners, especially by those who have settled on our traditional Motu Koitabu land. We will no longer tolerate the lawlessness which seems to have made its way into our peaceful communities. We will no longer tolerate anyone who acts outside the rule of law. There is no place in our society for individuals who promote and practice conflict and violence. A society that does not follow and respect the rule of law is a sick society and must be condemned by all leaders at all levels. The Police must arrest the perpetrators of these attacks and do everything in their power to promote peace, good order and to maintain the rule of law.”

The CMK Governing Council will meet with the Minister for Internal Security and the Police Commissioner to bring justice to families that have been impacted and to ensure that the rule of law is respected.
