Three children are among the 15 people buried alive in last Monday’s tragic landslide in Saki, near the Tolukuma Gold Mine in the Goilala District of Central Province.

Acting Provincial Administrator Francis Koaba confirmed this in the latest update to the PNG Bulletin late yesterday evening (Sunday 3rd of January).

Mr Koaba said 12 dead bodies were retrieved while three are unaccounted.

Mr Koaba’s team from Central Disaster Office have been hard at work excavating and retrieving bodies since flying in to Saki last Wednesday.

“Yesterday we repatriated three bodies to their respective villages in Sopu and Kone. Today we delivered some relief supplies to the site and did one repatriation to Mondo. We also delivered more food supplies to people on site.” Mr Koaba said.
