Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) has announced a donation of 1,250 library books to Ted Diro Primary and Elementary School, made possible through a donation by Blue Water Shipping.

This will go towards supporting the school’s efforts to strengthen its library facilities and enhance’ learning experiences renewing access to valuable learning resources for students and teachers.

The donation includes 1,000 books for the primary school and 250 books for the elementary school, providing valuable resources for supplementary reading, research, and classroom support. These books will play a vital role in encouraging a culture of reading and improving literacy outcomes among students.

This initiative was made possible through the generous support of Blue Water Shipping, whose funding has enabled BbP to deliver these much-needed resources to the school community. Buk bilong Pikinini and Ted Diro Primary and Elementary School extended their gratitude to Blue Water Shipping for their commitment to education and their meaningful contribution toward improving literacy in Papua New Guinea.

Executive Officer of Buk bilong Pikinini, Leanne Resson said: “Books are essential tools that expand children’s horizons and nurture curiosity. In school settings, integrating library resources into lessons helps children connect theory with imagination, fosters independent exploration, and builds a lifelong love of learning. We thank Blue Water Shipping for coming on board and supporting the replenishment of school libraries, one school at a time.”

Head Teacher of Ted Diro Primary School, Ms Kelgai expressed her gratitude for the support, highlighting that the donation comes at a much-needed time for the school. She noted that the school did not have a central library facility, and relied on classroom-based libraries where teachers encourage students to bring books to read and share with one another.

She added that this donation will greatly enhance their classroom reading sessions and provide students with improved access to quality learning materials.

Buk bilong Pikinini is calling on corporate organizations across Papua New Guinea to step forward and support community schools in urgent need of library resources. Many schools across the country lack access to basic reading materials, limiting students’ ability to learn, grow, and reach their full potential. By doing this, business houses have the opportunity to make a tangible and lasting impact on education in Papua New Guinea, just as Blue Water Shipping has demonstrated through this meaningful contribution.

Buk bilong Pikinini also extends its sincere appreciation to PNG Air, Express Freight Management and Sea Fast for their invaluable logistical support in enabling the shipment of books from Australia to Papua New Guinea, and for assisting with distribution to schools across different provinces.

In addition to this partnership, Buk bilong Pikinini also acknowledged the support of other corporate and community partners who have contributed to book donations so far this quarter, including Fincorp, Svitzer PNG, and the Warrnambool Rotary Club. Their collective support is helping to expand access to books for children across the country, and Buk bilong Pikinini looks forward to welcoming more partners to join this important cause.
