THE Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) has issued a stern warning to all Public Motor Vehicles (PMVs) operating in and around Port Moresby not to charge additional bus fares to passengers.

ICCC Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, Paulus Ain, today in a statement has announced that the approved bus fare for 2019 still remains in force.

This means adults will have to pay K1, Primary and Secondary students K0.50 while Tertiary students are allowed to pay K0.80.

Mr Ain said PMV crews must not charge more than this amount.

“If you charge the passengers more than this amount, you will be charged,” Ain warned.

He also urged PMV users or commuters to report any PMV operators defying this instruction to ICCC Toll Free number, 325 2144 or 180 3333 by providing the following details;

  1. Plate number of the bus
  2. The particular route the offence occurred
  3. The time of day and date the offence occurred; and
  4. Complainant name and contact details
