Menyamya Apple Farmers in Morobe province will be boosted in a special way with the assistance from their governor Ginson Saonu.

Governor Saonu is ready to empower Menyamya Apple Famers to increase yield, quality and market accessibility under the Morobe Province SME program.

The idea is to enable farmers’ access to funds under the Morobe SME program to increase productivity of their produce, increase yield capacity with quality and to provide market accessibility for farmers to sell their produce conveniently.

Governor Saonu said under the Triple 1 Policy of the Morobe Provincial Government, he is keen to create more opportunities for rural based farmers to have access to funding that will steer growth in their projects and eventually elevate the economic potential of Morobe Province in the long run.

The Menyamya farmers were in town last week with samples of their produce and was presented to Governors Chief of Staff Tokana Hasivi and Provincial Strategy Analyst Noah Ariku at Ampo Lutheran Headquarters in Lae.

Mr Hasivi assured the farmers that he will relay the plans discussed with the farmers to the Morobe Provincial Government team including the Governor.

“I would also want to appeal to the Morobe Province Commerce Officers to visit the farmers and their farms and collect vital data and report on the apple farming project back to the provincial government.

“This will be the information the provincial government will analyze and utilize to properly assist the farmers,” Mr Hasivi said.

According to Spokesman for the farmers, the 35 farmers have already formed a cooperative, which will be working closely with Morobe Provincial Government to ensure that they work collectively.
