Concerns raised on littering, home brew production

By JOE GURINA

SEVERAL community leaders in Hanuabada in the North-West Electorate have raised series of concerns on the much exposed littering and home brew production in the big village of the nation’s capital.

The community leaders who requested anonymity said, the big village in the nation’s capital is unsafe and unhealthy with litter disposed everywhere.

They said unlike in the past, there was organized pick up of rubbish done by the than Motu Koita Council.

Adding on to the issue, is the uncontrolled, brewing of home brew that is causing so much law-and-order problems in the village.

The community leaders expressed their dismay on innocent taxi drivers and the general public being harassed by youths under the influence of home brew.

They said the youths have gone out of hand.

“Taxi service providers and the general public have been continuously harassed youths under the influence of homebrew.

“The home brew or steam is sold on market stalls just like any other assorted drinks and there is no control over it.

“We have been raising these issue many times, but there has been no solutions to the issue,’’ the community leaders said.

“We are now asking the Motu Koita Assembly and the MP for Moresby North West, Lohia Boe Samuel, who also is a local from the area to intervene and find ample solution to the issue.”

Also, at the same token, the community leaders have asked the office of the local MP for Moresby North West and the Motu Koita Assembly to find alternatives address the removal of littering in the area.

They said, it is a health hazard, and children under the age of five and 12 have been affected with symptoms of diaroherea and typhoid.

Meanwhile, an interview with the NCDC Health Authority this week has sparked an alert to visit the area to do awareness on health and hygiene. Image: Hanuabada (PNG TPA)
