Crime investigations sector modernized

By CLIFFORD FAIPARIK

MODERN crime investigation technology is replacing retrenched Police Forensic experts in investigating crime, Crime Assistant Commissioner Hodge Ette says.

“The retrenchment exercise had depleted Forensic specialists in Documentation Examination section in investigating fraud and forged documents. And also our expert Finger Print technician was retrenched.

“So, a lot of fraud documents began to stack up including investigation that needs finger prints samples.

“Now we have their young replacement but it will take time for them to be trained properly,” Commissioner Ette said.

“However, I thank the National Government for funding our Development Budget because we have addressed that problem very fast and effectively.

“Under the Biology Laboratory Program, I thank our partners Meddent and Agilent, as we have acquired a brand new state of the art equipment for documentation examiner. It is now in use.”

“We now have seven personnel trained by experts from Europe to operate the new technology and they are vetted and certified to operate that technology.

“Finger print section is now been improved. We will build a new building for finger print and we will equip it with state of the art technology.”

Mr Ette also said: “They will build a National Cyber Forensic Laboratory and detectives employed in that laboratory will be trained by United States Government where Central Intelligence Agency and Home Land Security will run the training for us. They will train us from basic and advanced technology. This also will combat transnational criminal”.

Mr Ette said that he will be in Singapore to bring in DNA testing molecular next week.

“With this technology we can easily identify deceased even with only a body parts or, bones only.”
