Dei District Signs DCDC agreement with DFCDR

DEI District in Western Highlands Province has signed an agreement with Department for Community Development and Religion to establish a District Community Development Center (DCDC).

The agreement was signed yesterday between member for Dei district Hon. Desmond Kipa and Minister for Community Development, Youth and Religion Hon. Jason Peter.

This agreement reflects a shared commitment between the department and the district to deliver community development services at the grassroots level ensuring that communities can access without having to travel long distances.

Minister Jason Peter described the establishment of the DCDC as one of Government’s achievement.

“It’s a 50/50 partnership project between the National Government and the district that we are looking forward to do more of this.

We should have the building complete before going for election next year,” he said.

The newly elected Member for Dei district thanked Minister Jason Peter and the department for giving Dei District the opportunity to partner with them.

He praised the department for providing this opportunity, emphasizing the programs offered by the department to serve marginalized populations and people at the district level.

He also highlighted that his district lack services for over 10 years so this project is vital for his people.

“This project will go in line with other projects that we are carrying out in the district. We will definitely responsible for the 50% of the project,” he concluded.

Dei district is the fourth district to sign the agreement this year and it is expected to be completed before 2027 National General election.

The DCDC currently in constriction are; Anglimp south waghi, Wapenamanda, Koroba kopiago and Saidor district.

Expected to be completed this year are Anglimp and Saidor with Imbonggu and Gazelle district completed and in full operation.

Projects to start this year are; Huon gulf, Kikori, Kerowagi, Dei Counci, Usino Bundi and Kerema district.
