Prime Minister Hon James Marape says education and healthcare continue to be among the government’s highest priorities as Papua New Guinea prepares for future growth.

Speaking during a media briefing at the APEC Terminal, Mr Marape highlighted major achievements in both sectors over the last seven years.

In education, he said the government has delivered the country’s largest school fee support programme, expanded the Higher Education Loan Programme (HELP), created more than 5,000 new tertiary education spaces and supported students pursuing STEM studies overseas.

Mr Marape also pointed to the establishment of the Innovative University of Enga and major investments in university and college infrastructure.
“Education remains the most powerful investment we can make in the future of our country,” he said.

On healthcare, the Prime Minister highlighted the development of specialist medical services, including Papua New Guinea’s first successful kidney transplant procedures, expanded heart treatment services, and advanced cancer treatment facilities.

He also noted the redevelopment of provincial hospitals, including major works at Enga Provincial Hospital and the strengthening of cancer treatment services at Angau Memorial Hospital.

Mr Marape said the government remains committed to ensuring quality healthcare services reach all Papua New Guineans regardless of where they live.
