EDUCATED elites from Oro Province have decided to come together in a bid to discuss and assist each other in addressing current issues in the province.
A group called Civic Network for Oro Development (CNOD) was already initiated by few working professionals from Oro to drive this agenda.
The working professionals are notably the lecturers from the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG), and individuals from the government and non-government organizations.

Last Sunday 4th of June 2023, CNOD had its inaugural meeting at the UPNG Waigani Campus to frame this initiative going forward while collaborating with the UPNG Oro students Association.

Executive Director for Northern Environmental Solutions Inc, Mr. Greg Soka described this group as a movement that aims to addressing current issues in the province through organized forums with the MPs, Governor and the communities in the province.
He said CNOD was established following discussions with other Oro elites who are willing to take part and move the agenda forward.

During the inaugural meeting, the professionals encourage the students to be positive, adding that such avenue can equip them with positive ideas for greater benefits.

They also encourage the students to; put God first in everything that they do, obey their parents and be disciplined in order to excel in their future endeavors.
A senior officer also said that the students have to build their interpersonal skills which are a need in any organizations that they will join after completing their studies.

UPNG Oro students association’s president Sonia Zinga expressed her gratitude towards the initiative and said that the students (inclusive of Madfac) will help in conducting research in the province to find possible ways to addressing current issues.
The group has set its working committee comprising of the professionals and the students already to start carry the work forward.

The CNOD is looking at registering the group under IPA to operate as a registered organization.
Meanwhile, CNOD is now extending its invitation to other Oro students in other tertiary institutions in Port Moresby and other Oro elites to come on board to contribute positive ideas for the development of the province.
